Recovery Team report - February 2023
I am a Nooaitch Band member, recently elected to Nooaitch Band Council. I have been privileged to work for the Nooaitch Band after completing My Business Administration Management Diploma through NVIT in 1995.
Boards that I sat on throughout the years since returning to live back in the Nooaitch community in 1990 are as follows:
I was the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Finance Director for Lytton Indian Band and EOC Director for Nooaitch Indian Band for the Lytton Creek wildfire and Atmospheric Nicola River event in November 2021.
As Nooaitch has developed a Nooaitch Recovery plan for the Flood event, I am filling the team position as Council Liaison to assist the Nooaitch Recovery team on our rebuild to both the short-term and long-term recovery impacts resulting from flooding in November 2021.
I look forward to working with our team.
David has worked for the band since 2013 as the Lands Manager. He was involved in each EOC, the 2017 - 2018 Floodings, and he was involved with the re-building and land protection. He has also been part of the team during the Lytton Wildfire and The Atmospheric River Event. He has active involvement during each Nooaitch emergency.
David has communicated with all contractors during the rebuild of the bridges, Canford and the Spius Creek Bridge. As Nooaitch formed a Recovery Team, he joined as Nooaitch's Planning Lead. So basically, David also works with EMBC, ISC, MOTi, and all contractors that work for our community. David is also the joint communicator with the Provincial and Federal Ministers.

My name is Olivia Buck. I am the eldest daughter of Joyce Sam and the late Dennis Buck. My maternal grandparents were Willie Sam from Shackan and Josephine Brown from Nooaitch. My paternal grandparents were James (Jim) and Nettie Buck. I have five children who keep me grounded and focused on being a positive role model to them. I am also a community caregiver, having a Nooaitch child in my care. Nooaitch Band recently hired me for the Recovery Manager position, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my work within the community and develop new skills.
I have a vested interest in Nooaitch Band. It is my home. I strive to contribute positively to our people's health, safety, and well-being. I have worked during each encountered emergency in Nooaitch, from EOC Director to EOC Logistics Director. I have learned so much in the realm of Emergency Response. I look forward to gaining more knowledge and skills within Recovery. The Lytton Wildfire and the Atmospheric River event we experienced were devastating, and the impacts on our community were catastrophic. The Chief and Council successfully advocated for our community to get a Recovery team in place to start the long road to Recovery. We face a large workload. However, with an excellent team, I am confident we will complete the work needed and get our families home.
